At this rate of degradation this is what we can expect in the next concerrt of TM Krishna,
Well this is euphemistically called experiments and exploratory music, vibrance, bravery and many other nonsense words by hard core TMK fans but the truth is classical music has just been buried long ago in his concerts.
sing swaras and start charanam from sriganapathini...attach thani for this....totally one hour.
2.sankarabharanam alapana followed by ramachnadram rajeevaksham note swara by dikshitar.
3.rtp starting with thodi alapana, mixed with behag thaanam and followed by vara naradha of thyagaraja --- here anupallavi from giri pai will be mixed with this song, charanam from ramanukku man mudi tharithaale will also be mixed up. in the end there will be thani between violin and morsing. gatam and mridangam will be watcching.....
4.jana gana mana with a kambhodi alapana and sung in madhyamavathi.
two of his students will render this song along with him, each singing in turns for 5 minutes. so that it looks like perfect film music.
5.concert ends with vinayaka song comprising pallavi from ganarajena in arabhi, anupallavi from gajavadhana in sri ranjani and charanam from a bhajan in tillang prabho ganapathey. if u can have raga maalika , who said there cannot be a paattu maalika?? i will do every possible mix up.
when everry one is leaving, call back all and ask permission, shall i sing till next week and continue with pantuvarali alapana, thodi alapana, purvi kalyani alapana, ranjani alapana and mix it with "why this kolaveri di " as pallavi and its tamil version" yen indha kolaveri di?" in dharmavathi and simmendra madhyamam............
his concert continues but half the crowd has already died of heart attck. i am one of them....

This is his next cconcert. Be prepared for the worst. Also please give your suggestions to improve this sort of a "concert"....(noise making would be more appropriate to describe rather)
1. start with saurashtra thaanam followed by pavamaana suthudu...sing swaras and start charanam from sriganapathini...attach thani for this....totally one hour.
2.sankarabharanam alapana followed by ramachnadram rajeevaksham note swara by dikshitar.

ha ha ha rightly said, i can think of a bhairavi alapana followed by evari mata pallavi, chakkani raja anupallavi and charanam from meera bhajan --more tho giridhara gopala.... with a thaniavarthanam between thavil and konnakol. mridangam and gatam vidwan can have a break watch tv serials or play mridangam for nearby concerts and return after a while
ReplyDeleteThis is really shocking to read.... It is very disrespectful to the Composers of these songs - songs which indeed are their forms of prayer to their deities - to mix-up the songs and sing them half-and-half, and "leave-out" the place where the "ankita" of the composer comes.... I cannot believe that anyone would do this kind of experimentation. It is totally void of the bhakti-sentiment that each composer put into each of his songs. If we recite vEda: we do not take one rik from each suukta and string them together to our liking. There is a sequence and a sacred methodology that is to be followed that is pre-set by the riShi-s. Same way - these kiirtana-s are equally sacred and contain many esoteric spiritual aspects (such as biijaakShara-s, the tapas-shakti of the composer invested into the kiirtana so that the singer may indirectly become the recipient of the composer's puNya as well, etc.). It is very blasphemous to then pull these kiirtana-s apart and sing portions of them - at your whim and fancy. With all due respects, I still must convey to Shrii. TM Krishna - that I deplore this kind of random play with something that is so holy and sacred to our pious composers - who are saints and enlightened souls. You need to stop this - Shrii. TM Krishna, Sir Just think about it: What would our revered Guru-Shrii. Shemmangudi Shrinivasa Iyer think and say about what you are doing? with best regards, Raghavendra Batni (Washington DC, USA).
